John M. Lee, "Introduction to Topological Manifolds"
Springer | ISBN 0387950265 | 2000 Year | linked PNG-files | 22,9 Mb | 400
Pages[cut]
This book is an introduction to manifolds at the beginning graduate level. It
contains the essential topological ideas that are needed for the further study
of manifolds, particularly in the context of differential geometry, algebraic
topology, and related fields. Its guiding philosophy is to develop these ideas
rigorously but economically, with minimal prerequisites and plenty of geometric
intuition. A course on manifolds differs from most other introductory
mathematics graduate courses in that the subject matter is often completely
unfamiliar. Unlike algebra and analysis, which all math majors see as
undergraduates, manifolds enter the curriculum much later. It is even possible
to get through an entire undergraduate mathematics education without ever
hearing the word "manifold." Yet manifolds are part of the basic vocabulary of
modern mathematics, and students need to know them as intimately as they know
the integers, the real numbers, Euclidean spaces, groups, rings, and fields. In
his beautifully conceived introduction, the author motivates the technical
developments to follow by explaining some of the roles manifolds play in diverse
branches of mathematics and physics. Then he goes on to introduce the basics of
general topology and continues with the fundamental group, covering spaces, and
elementary homology theory. Manifolds are introduced early and used as the main
examples throughout. John M. Lee is currently Professor of Mathematics at the
University of Washington.

Paolo Santi, "Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks"
John Wiley & Sons | ISBN 0470094532 | 2005 Year | PDF | 1,5 Mb | 280 Pages[cut]
Topology control is fundamental to solving scalability and capacity problems in
large-scale wireless ad hoc and sensor networks. Forthcoming wireless multi-hop
networks such as ad hoc and sensor networks will allow network nodes to control
the communication topology by choosing their transmitting ranges. Briefly,
topology control (TC) is the art of co-ordinating nodes' decisions regarding
their transmitting ranges, to generate a network with the desired features.
Building an optimized network topology helps surpass the prevalent scalability
and capacity problems. Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks
makes the case for topology control and provides an exhaustive coverage of TC
techniques in wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, considering both stationary
networks, to which most of the existing solutions are tailored, and mobile
networks. The author introduces a new taxonomy of topology control and gives a
full explication of the applications and challenges of this important topic.
Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks: Defines topology
control and explains its necessity, considering both stationary and mobile
networks. Describes the most representative TC protocols and their performance.
Covers the critical transmitting range for stationary and mobile networks,
topology optimization problems such as energy efficiency, and distributed
topology control. Discusses implementation and 'open issues', including
realistic models and the effect of multi-hop data traffic. Presents a case study
on routing protocol design, to demonstrate how TC can ease the design of
cooperative routing protocols. This invaluable text will provide graduate
students in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Applied
Mathematics and Physics, researchers in the field of ad hoc networking, and
professionals in wireless telecoms as well as networking system developers with
a single reference resource on topology control.

Stephen J. Morewitz, "Stalking and Violence: New Patterns of Trauma and
Obsession"
Springer | ISBN 0306473658 | 2002 Year | linjed PNG-files | 12,94 Mb | 150
Pages[cut]
Stalking and Violence: New Patterns of Obsession and Trauma provides new
perspectives on the prevalence, causes, and effects of stalking in intimate and
non-intimate relations. Drawing on the results of a large random survey of
restraining orders, this book found that stalking is highly prevalent in a
variety of relationships and is a pattern of behaviors that is routinely
regulated by the demographic and social characteristics of the victims and
offenders. This book demonstrates that it is possible to develop reliable
stalker profiles to help better detect and respond to the threat of stalking.
These findings differ from previous studies that considered stalking limited to
severely disturbed persons. Covering a wide range of topics from offender
profiling, the dangers of stalking, cyberstalking, traumatic health effects, and
the responses of the police and courts to stalking, this book will be relevant
to a wide range of professionals and students in the fields of mental health,
criminal justice, law, social work, medicine, nursing, public health,
security/safety, and internet technology.

Sir Isaac Newton was one of the greatest scientists of all time, a thinker of
extraordinary range and creativity who has left enduring legacies in mathematics
and the natural sciences. In this volume a team of distinguished contributors
examines the principal aspects of Newton's thought. They include not only his
approach to space, time, mechanics, and universal gravity in Principia and his
research in optics and mathematics, but also his lesser known clandestine
investigations into alchemy, theology, and prophecy.

This book is a study of the transformation of the landscape, civic life, and
moral values of the pagan city of Rome following the conversion of the emperor
Constantine in the early fourth century. It examines the effects of the rise of
Christianity and the decline of paganism in the later Roman empire.

Ron Sun (Editor), "Cognition and Multi-Agent Interaction: From Cognitive
Modeling to Social Simulation"
Cambridge University Press | ISBN 0521839645 | 2005 Year | PDF | 3,15 Mb | 400
Pages[cut]
This book explores the intersection between cognitive sciences and social
sciences. In particular, it explores the intersection between individual
cognitive modeling and modeling of multi-agent interaction (social stimulation).
The two contributing fields--individual cognitive modeling (especially cognitive
architectures) and modeling of multi-agent interaction (including social
simulation and, to some extent, multi-agent systems)--have seen phenomenal
growth in recent years. However, the interaction of these two fields has not
been sufficiently developed. We believe that the interaction of the two may be
more significant than either alone.

John Battelle, "The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of
Business and Transformed Our Culture"
Portfolio Hardcover | ISBN 1591840880 | 2005 Year | PDF |  Mb | 320 Pages[cut]
If you pick your books by their popularity--how many and which other people are
reading them--then know this about The Search: it's probably on Bill Gates'
reading list, and that of almost every venture capitalist and startup-hungry
entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. In its sweeping survey of the history of
Internet search technologies, its gossip about and analysis of Google, and its
speculation on the larger cultural implications of a Web-connected world, it
will likely receive attention from a variety of businesspeople, technology
futurists, journalists, and interested observers of mid-2000s zeitgeist.
This ambitious book comes with a strong pedigree. Author John Battelle was a
founder of The Industry Standard and then one of the original editors of Wired,
two magazines which helped shape our early perceptions of the wild world of the
Internet. Battelle clearly drew from his experience and contacts in writing The
Search. In addition to the sure-handed historical perspective and easy
familiarity with such dot-com stalwarts as AltaVista, Lycos, and Excite, he
speckles his narrative with conversational asides from a cast of fascinating
characters, such Google's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin; Yahoo's, Jerry
