Nello Cristianini, John Shawe-Taylor, "An Introduction to Support Vector
Machines and Other Kernel-based Learning Methods"
Cambridge University Press | ISBN 0521780195 | 2000 Year | CHM | 4 Mb | 189
Pages

This is the first comprehensive introduction to Support Vector Machines
(SVMs), a new generation learning system based on recent advances in statistical
learning theory. Students will find the book both stimulating and accessible,
while practitioners will be guided smoothly through the material required for a
good grasp of the theory and its applications. The concepts are introduced
gradually in accessible and self-contained stages, while the presentation is
rigorous and thorough. Pointers to relevant literature and web sites containing
software make it an ideal starting point for further study.

Rob Nagel, "UXL Encyclopedia of Landforms: And Other Geologic Features"
UXL | ISBN 078767611X | 2003 Year | DjVu | 9 Mb | 624 Pages

Explores the physical structure of the Earth's landforms, including what they
are, how they look, how they were created and change over time, and major
geological events associated with each.
From a science-centered perspective, this new resource focuses on the physical
and geological aspects, structure and features of 24 of earth's landforms --
what they are, how they look, how they were created, how they change over time,
and major geological events associated with them. Written for middle school
students to support earth science and landform-related assignments,
alphabetically arranged entries follow a standard and consistent subheaded
format; range in length from nine to 11 pages; and cover common and unusual
landforms such as canyon, cliff, plateau, valley, volcano and many more. Entries
include a description and overview of physical features or characteristics and
their relationship to connected areas; how the landform is shaped including
constructive and destructive forces involved and additional changes that can
occur; types of life supported; and famous examples of landforms. Included are
25 maps, charts and graphs; 180 full-color photos and illustrations; words to
know; bibliography; and comprehensive index.

Ara Dermarderosian, "The Review of Natural Products: Formerly Lawrence Review of
Natural Products Published by Facts and Comparisons" (4th edition)
Facts and Comparisons | ISBN 1574392034 | 2004 Year | PDB | 2 Mb | 772 Pages

The ongoing publication, The Review of Natural Products Monograph System, is
the culmination of years of work by professionals interested in providing a
continuous update on all natural products and nutraceuticals being used by the
public for various health purposes.

Formerly known as The Lawrence Review of Natural Products, The Review of Natural
Products was one of the first and is still the only reference of its kind in
medical literature. The editor, consulting editor, and advisory panel, have
extensive experience in the field of natural product pharmacy and medicine. The
Review of Natural Products includes more than 300 monographs published in a
single volume loose-leaf format to facilitate monthly updates. Each monograph
features scientific names, common names, botany or description of source,
history, chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, patient information, summary and
references. The format provides pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other
health professionals with a quick, up-to-date, objective assessment of the
latest legitimate medical and scientific studies on numerous natural products,
including medically active foods (nutraceuticals). Attempts are made throughout
the reference to remain scientifically objective and place weight on legitimate
chemical, pharmacological, and clinical studies in reputable journals or
Websites.

Other features include a list of natural product Websites, a list of herbal
diuretics, a mushroom poisoning decision chart, a list of mushroom societies,
national poison control centers, potential herb-drug interactions tables, and
scientific and trade organizations related to natural products. There is a
primary index (common and scientific names) as well as a comprehensive and
useful therapeutic uses index.

Caution is advised in using combination herbal products and single botanical
products. The Review of Natural Products is intended to provide the reader with
scientific data on both the benefits and the risks of various products.

In summer 2004, The Review of Natural Products will be reissued. Each monograph
will be reorganized into a new easy-to-scan format and will include a new quick-
reference clinical overview box that includes uses, dosing pregnancy/lactation,
drug-herb interaction, adverse reaction, and toxicology information.

It is hoped that this up-to-date and complete reference will continue to be
useful for all whom it is intended. We encourage suggestions and comments to
help us improve The Review of Natural Products for future editions.

Myung K. Park, "Pediatric Cardiology for Practitioners" (4th Edition)
C.V. Mosby | ISBN 0323014445 | 2002 Year | PDB | 13,6 Mb | 560 Pages

Now in its 4th Edition, this popular comprehensive reference guide provides
the practical knowledge needed to diagnose and manage children with congenital
and acquired heart disease. In a clear, straightforward manner, it explains
whether the patient should be referred to a pediatric cardiologist or managed by
the primary care practitioner. Treatment following specialized care is also
discussed. This book focuses on the practical information and leaves out the
theoretical details.

Since the publication of the third edition of Pediatric Cardiology for
Practitioners in 1996, important advances have been made not only in the
diagnosis but also in the medical and surgical management of children with
congenital and acquired heart diseases. These advances make it necessary to
update this book. Extensive updating and revisions have been made throughout the
book to the level that is appropriate for primary care physicians, residents,
and medical students. Despite extensive revision, the book maintains the
original goal of providing noncardiologists with fundamental and practical
information for the management of children with cardiac problems. Thus, the
general layout of the book has been preserved to serve as a small reference
book, avoiding excessive theoretical details or detailed surgical descriptions
of management commonly found in subspecialty textbooks.
Chapters covering congenital and acquired heart disease have been updated or
rewritten, incorporating the most recent advances in diagnosis and management.
The revisions also include new and revised tables and figures to facilitate in-
depth understanding by the readers. For the surgical aspects of pediatric
cardiology, no major attempts were made to summarize surgical mortality rates,
complications, and results of long-term, follow-up reports coming from a number
of institutions. As long as these figures were in an appropriate level for non-
cardiologists, changes were not attempted; surgical results are constantly
changing and they are easily accessed through electronic media.
Sections dealing with blood pressure and systemic hypertension have been
extensively rewritten to update recommendations of the recent national
committees. Chapters that have been extensively revised include cardiovascular
infections, including infective endocarditis, Kawasaki's disease, and human
immunodeficiency virus infection; cardiomyopathy; cardiac arrhythmias; and
congenital heart block. Part VII, Neonatal Cardiac Problems, has also been
extensively rewritten and updated. Chapters on congestive heart failure,
pulmonary hypertension, and hyperlipidemia have been updated to reflect the most
recent information. R. George Troxler, MD, MPH, Director, Lipid Education
Clinic, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, kindly
collaborated with me in updating Hyperlipidemia in Childhood, bringing his
expertise to the book.
I wish to acknowledge the contributions of Ms. Nancy Place, CMI, MS, who has
been instrumental in producing superb artwork for this fourth edition, as well
as for the earlier editions. Dae-Hwan Shin, PhD, a personal friend and a
bioengineering faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio, has been a willing consultant and adviser for my computer
problems. Most of all, I thank my wife for understanding my long period of
preoccupation with this project.
